Why should you get screened?

Varicose veins are more than skin deep and affect people of all ages. Signs and symptoms include cramping, heaviness, and swelling of the legs. These symptoms are directly related to venous insufficiency. Venous insufficiency is a common medical problem that is caused by leaky valves located within the veins. Family history is the number one risk factor for this condition.

Taking preventative measures when experiencing these symptoms will help not only treat venous insufficiency, but later prevent worsening issues; such as ulcers, wounds, and blood clots. Untreated venous disease can also lead to phlebitis and continued discomfort during day to day activities and through the night. Spider veins, varicose veins, and bulging veins are also signs of venous insufficiency, not just a cosmetic concern. Females are at higher risk during and after pregnancy as veins are often affected by hormones. In addition, if your profession requires you to sit or stand for long periods of time you are more susceptible to vascular insufficiency, restless legs, and swelling. Intervention can help to decrease edema, accelerate wound healing and improve everyday activities.
